Terms of service
1. Who we are
Critswap is run by Levan Abashidze, as a sole trader. "We" and "us" below mean that person; "you" means the person using Critswap.
These terms are the agreement between you and us about your use of Critswap. Creating an account is how you accept them. If there is anything here you do not accept, do not create one.
You can reach us at support@critswap.com about anything in this document.
2. Your account
You need an account to give or receive a crit. You can create one with an email address and a password, or by signing in with Google, GitHub or Discord.
- Confirm your email address before you give a crit, submit a project or buy Echo. Until you do, those three are closed to you.
- One person, one account. An account made to give your own project a crit, to earn Echo twice, or to get around a suspension can be closed without notice.
- What happens under your account is your responsibility. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has it.
- You must be old enough, where you live, to enter into an agreement like this one.
3. What Critswap is
Critswap is an exchange. You spend some minutes on another maker’s page and write down what you saw, how it landed and an answer to the one question they asked. That earns Echo, and Echo is what puts your own project in front of other makers.
We do not employ reviewers and we do not read crits before they reach you. What we do is fix the shape of a crit, take reports about the bad ones and remove the ones that break these terms. We do not promise that any particular crit will be useful, kind or right.
4. Echo
Echo is a unit of account inside Critswap and nothing else. It is not money, it is not a currency, it carries no cash value, it earns nothing, and it cannot be transferred to another person, sold, or redeemed for money.
- You earn Echo by giving crits, and you can buy it.
- Echo you earn is held pending until the window for reporting that crit has passed, and becomes available after it.
- If a project reaches the end of its life without receiving every crit it asked for, the Echo for the crits it never got is returned to your balance.
- We may adjust a balance to correct a mistake, to take back Echo earned by a crit a report was upheld against, or to reverse Echo bought with a payment that was later charged back.
- Echo does not expire while your account is open. Closing the account ends the balance — see "Ending it" below.
5. Giving a crit
Taking a project from the queue is you agreeing to look at the page and answer honestly. In practice that means:
- Write about the page you were actually shown, in your own words.
- Do not paste one crit onto several projects, and do not submit text you have not read and would not stand behind.
- Do not use a crit to advertise, to solicit, to abuse the maker, or to try to reach them outside Critswap.
- Take an assignment only if you mean to finish it. One that runs out simply goes back to the queue, but a habit of abandoning them is something we may act on.
- If a project is broken, off-topic or inappropriate, skip it and say why, rather than writing a crit about it.
A crit you submit is shown to the project’s owner without your name attached. Your identity as its reviewer is not part of what they receive.
6. Submitting a project
- Submit a page you own, or one you are entitled to put in front of strangers.
- Nothing unlawful, sexual, hateful or deceptive, and nothing whose purpose is to collect data from the people we send to it.
- Nothing a reviewer cannot actually reach: not behind a login, a paywall, or a form.
- A project is checked by us before it enters the queue and can be rejected. You are told the reason.
- Its URL is also checked against a third-party reputation service, which the privacy policy names. A URL that comes back flagged does not run.
- A project has a lifetime, after which it stops taking crits and the unfilled slots refund as described above.
- Whether reviewers who have finished your project can see the links on your profile is your switch, and it starts off.
7. Buying Echo
- Echo packs are sold through our payment provider, Whop. You pay them, not us, and we never see or hold your card details.
- The price is the one shown at checkout, in the currency shown there.
- The Echo reaches your balance once the provider tells us the payment succeeded.
- Echo is digital content delivered immediately, so buying it ends any right to change your mind that would otherwise apply.
- If a payment fails, is taken twice, or the Echo does not arrive, write to support@critswap.com and we will put it right. If you have bought Echo, not spent any of it, and want it refunded, ask us — we will look at it.
- A chargeback takes the Echo back. If it has already been spent, the account may be suspended until the balance is settled.
8. Reports and moderation
- Anyone who receives a crit can report it, and a person reads the report — not a machine.
- A report upheld against a crit you wrote takes back the Echo it earned and adds a strike to your account. Past a threshold, you stop being able to give crits.
- A report upheld against a project you submitted is counted separately, and past its own threshold you stop being able to submit.
- Filing reports that are repeatedly not upheld can cost you the ability to report at all.
- We can pause a project, remove a crit, or suspend or close an account. Where we act on yours, we tell you what we did.
9. What you write
- You keep ownership of everything you write.
- You give us permission to store it and to show it where the exchange requires: a crit to the owner of the project it was written for, a project to the reviewers it is offered to. That is the whole of the permission — we do not publish your crits elsewhere and we do not sell them.
- You are responsible for what you write, and an admin can read any of it in order to moderate. Do not put anything in a crit you would not want read.
10. Availability
Critswap is offered as it is. We do not promise that it will be available, uninterrupted or free of faults, and we may change or withdraw any part of it. What we will not do is quietly delete crits you have already received.
11. Liability
We are responsible to you for loss we cause by breaking this agreement or by failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for loss of profit, business, or opportunity.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and for fraud.
12. Ending it
- You can stop using Critswap whenever you like. To have the account and its data deleted, write to support@critswap.com — the privacy policy sets out exactly what deletion removes and what it keeps.
- Closing an account ends its Echo balance. Echo is not money and is not refunded on closure.
- We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
- Crits you already wrote stay with the projects they were written for. They carry no name and they are part of another maker’s record of their own project.
13. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. When we change something that matters, this page and the date at the top of it change before the new version takes effect. Carrying on using Critswap after that is how you accept it.
Questions about any of this go to support@critswap.com.
